‘The Devil’s Dance’ is one of the most common folkloric expressions scattered all over the Latin America continent. Originally from Levante – the Mediterranean cost in Spain-, this dance crossed the Atlantic during the Colony times and it has undergone many changes depending on the country where it takes place.

It is important to stress that Devil and his actions have been a symbol of resistance among the native communities. We will capture the devils of Levante in Spain, the devils of Oruro in Bolivia, the devils of Yare in Venezuela and devils of Portobello in Panama; the most impressive popular celebrations.

The devil’s Dance is the purest expression of the ancestral culture, and this legacy refuses to die, it’s the essence of the common will, passing on from one generation to the next, calling us to take part in it.

How to reach God through Devil seems to be the common denominator of these celebrations, trying to explain why the atonement wouldn’t exist without sin, using the devil’s name to atone for a decadent society, instead of blaming the mortals; ‘it’s not our fault’, it’s temptation, the setting where the old battles have been settled, like Judas Iscariots, to whom we prefer to burn and point out, as if his mission were unnecessary too; all for the sake of our redemption. However, next year we will get dressed again as demons and we will beg forgiveness. Let the party go on!
